In 1895, an African American janitor named Harvey Lillard stepped into D.D. Palmer’s office in Davenport Iowa, in hopes of finding a solution to his partial deafness. Harvey went partially deaf after bending forward and hearing a pop like sound in his back years ago. After a pioneering spinal adjustment an unconventional approach at the time- Lillard reported improved hearing ushering in the birth of chiropractic. This Black History Month we remember Harvey Lillard’s role in revolutionizing healthcare, a testament to how even a single act of innovation can shape an entire field and uplift countless lives.
